Karen Koehler Zell, DDS, MS
 

Dr. Karen Koehler Zell grew up in Evansville, Indiana. She went to college at DePauw and Purdue Universities to follow a 3-2 Engineering Program. She earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts from DePauw and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue. As an undergraduate she was a member of both Repertory Dance Companies, competed with the Purdue Equestrian Team, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was selected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society and graduated summa cum laude. As a chemical engineer she worked for Eli Lilly and Company doing research and development on new pharmaceutical drugs.

In 1999 Dr. Koehler Zell left chemical engineering to pursue dentistry at Louisiana State University. She was a class representative for the American Student Dental Association, was President of the C. Edmund Kells Honorary Society, and received the Dean’s Award for service, clinical skills and academics. She did research in dental restorative materials and participated in a dental mission trip to Atoyac, Mexico.

After graduating from LSU Dr. Koehler Zell completed her three-year orthodontic residency with a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. At UNC she received the Freedland Advanced Dental Education Fellowship and did research in eruption disorders with Dr. William Proffit and Dr. James Ackerman. Her research was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. In 2006 she moved to Jacksonville to join her uncle, Dr. Dan Schellhase, in private practice. Dr. Koehler Zell is passionate about her work and dedicated to her patients and her staff. She and her husband, John, reside in the Riverside/Avondale area of Jacksonville with their English Mastiff Maggie.
